History of Dimaggios Pizza
DiMaggio’s Pizza will celebrate 50 years at the same location this year (2007).
In the Spring of 1957 Tony & Madeline DiMaggio purchased Serpe’s Inn from
Mayme Serpe (Madeline’s sister). From their years of experience in owning
a bar & restaurant at Belmont & Western in Chicago, they brought with them
Tony’s family’s original Italian recipes and a love of cooking and bringing
happiness to the table.
Tony & Madeline continued to bake delicious Chicago style pizzas, homemade lasagna, meatballs, spaghetti, Italian sandwiches, grill tasty burgers and serve many happy customers in the Lake Michigan Beach area. Tony & Madeline retired in 1972 and their son Vince took over the business, eventually expanding the menu as well as expanding DiMaggio’s itself. Vince managed the business for 33 years and now oversees the operation.
Today, celebrating 50 years (currently owned by the four siblings: Vince
(Arlene), Izzy, Marge, Josie) DiMaggio’s still uses Tony’s original recipes.
The pizza sauce and crust and all spaghetti sauces are home-made. DiMaggio’s
Pizza is proud to offer a comfortable, family-style environment with a laid-back friendly atmosphere. The service is reliable, friendly and dependable. Many of the staff have been there for over twenty dedicated years, helping make DiMaggio’s what it is today.
Stories are legendary of couples who have met for the first time at DiMaggio’s,
married couples who celebrate their anniversary with us and of many, many,
generations of families (from Chicago and all of Southwest Michigan) who
gather together in the summers to enjoy our pizza and to keep their traditions
alive.
DiMaggio’s Pizza, located just walking distance from Lake Michigan, offers
delicious, home-cooked meals, the best/most original pizza for miles around
and a family owned ambiance that takes pride in serving guests as if they were
family.
